Charles Edward Anderson Berry October 18, — March 18, was an American singer and songwriter, and one of the pioneers of rock and roll music.
Nicknamed the " Father of Rock and Roll ", Berry refined and developed rhythm and blues into the major elements that made rock and roll distinctive with songs such as " Maybellene "" Roll Over Beethoven "" Rock and Roll Music " and " Johnny B. Goode " Born into a middle-class African-American family in St. LouisMissouriBerry had an interest in music from an early age and gave his first public performance at Sumner High School. Berry claimed that he had had the camera installed to catch a worker who was suspected of stealing from the restaurant. Although his guilt was never proven in court, Berry opted for a class action settlement.
