It's definitely a good song to get the album kicked off with Then, we get very funky with a very particular version of Oriza Eh with a different sort of rhythm along with cymbals accompanying the music. It's a rather interesting song to listen to I have to say and I don't mind it although it took me a bit of time to get really into it. The Remastered version La Tristessa Duera - Manic Street Preachers - The Return Of . that album is also available!
G-E-T I-T! I've also reviewed it. It's just amazingly dynamic, swinging and with very tough arrangements perfectly suited to that style of song. It has a "sort of" Mozambique-ish rhythm. This song is definitely one of the big highlights from this album The end has bongo interventions from Roena that left me wanting a bit more I love it! Anyway, this tune contains I believe a message to the old players of Cuban music to modernize a bit their way of playing as they don't "make II - Andante Amoroso - Mozart* - Glenn Gould - The Piano Sonatas, Vol.
I anymore nowadays That's at least, MY opinion How does this version deviate from the Fania All Stars Cheetah version? We also get 2 Sax. This jazzy 2nd part is all about hot-burning brass whether it's the solos or brass arrangements, accompanied by a very good rhythmical swinging piano "drive" This is one of the fine Apollo Sound albums where they "shift the gear" to a higher level rhythmically with a more obvious N.
Y sound compared to the more "Puerto Rican from the Island" or slightly Cuban style of sound from some of the earlier recordings Another classic anyway! Remastered by: Miami Tape. This release is an absolute must-have!!! By this point in Aquellos Que Dicen - Roberto Roena Y Su Apollo Sound - 5 , Roberto Roena and his legendary Apollo Sound band were establishing themselves as one of the most progressive, most innovative and most experimental Salsa bands out there and this CD literally worked wonders for them.
This would also be the first of four Roberto Roena albums which featured the superb but underrated Sammy "El Rolo" Gonzalez as a lead singer. Gonzalez had previously sung with Tommy Olivencia's orchestra and can be heard on classic Olivencia albums like Aquellos Que Dicen - Roberto Roena Y Su Apollo Sound - 5 "Cueros, Salsa Y Sentimiento" and 's "Secuestro"--both on Inca Records.
One person found this helpful. The first six or seven by Roena and the Apollo Sound are all classics. Hopefully all of them. Especially volumes 4 and 6. Volume 5 is also at the top of the list, with several especially strong tunes.
Here's what John Child, latin music historian, had to say about it: "Roberto Roena and Apollo Sound developed into one of salsa's more progressive and sophisticated outfits with their own highly distinctive style. One of the high points is the explosive descarga "Ponte Duro", in which for nearly nine and half minutes, solo upon solo build to a climax of blasting horns.
Highly recommended. This was one of the finest efforts by Roena and the Apollo Sound. The album includes the very strange sounding, but good "Oriza Eh" qhich I believe has to do with African culture as did much Pra Iluminar - Leila Pinheiro E Eduardo Gudin - Pra Iluminar salsa. Now on to the best part: "Cui Cui" is an unforgettable classic that's very soulful and funky sounding.
And last but no least, my favorite "Avisale a mi Contrario. I did not give this 5 stars because of the 2 boleros and the merengue track that was inexplicably included, otherwise this album includes several true classics that continue to entertain us decades later. Que Se Sepa la-la-la-la-la-la-la-la-laa! What was lacking in the previous effort in terms of take-your-girl-on-the-dancefloor tracks, he makes up for 10 times over with this effort.
Starting with the opening cut, Cui Cui is both humorous and traditional salsa groove of the time at it's best. The next cut "Oriza Eh" brings us back to the Islands wearing loin cloth's, dancing around the campfire and "alabando a los santos. Plus the lyrical play on words is typical of the sonero's of the day.
All other tracks on the album go upward from here. Nuff said. I grew up listening to Roena's music; it is great to dance and to listen to. But, you guys are selling his music at rather high prices.
